Computer Internet Security Software – Security Software Essentials
If you want to connect your computer to the Internet without an up-to-date Internet security software, you may be compromised before you even blink.
It is strongly recommended that you have at least one functional antivirus program before connecting to the Internet.
If you do not take this precaution, your computer will be very vulnerable to infections. Your computer, as a security risk, also means that you put others at risk by spreading viruses or other malware from your infected computer.
Essential Internet security software
Anti-virus program
Anti-spyware / malware program
Firewall
Viruses have existed since the beginning of the Internet and come in different flavors.
A virus replicates and once activated, it begins to wreak havoc, such as deleting files or, in the worst case, blocking your computer.
Nowadays, most anti-virus software offers both anti-virus and anti-spyware protection.
Remember that a dedicated anti-spyware program will usually be better able to protect you from spyware than a stand-alone antivirus program. A combination of the two programs will provide more comprehensive protection against the wide range of malware threats on the Internet. These are similar but complementary programs. All commercial antivirus programs also come with an email scanner.
Last but not least, you should have a firewall in place.
A software firewall usually differentiates between an anti-virus program and an Internet security suite. The latter is always delivered with a built-in firewall. The firewall monitors and controls which applications are allowed to access the Internet and vice versa. The danger of a software firewall is that it can be quite confusing to configure it for an average PC user. That’s why a router, a hardware firewall, is better than a software firewall.
The above is the basic Internet security software that everyone should use to go online. All programs are available in their free or commercial version.
