How to Enhance Your Computer Security?
When Charles Babbage, the father of Modern Computers, designed the differential engine and the analytic engine, he probably never thought about computer security. There were more important research topics, but with the time and versatility of the computer, people started applying the computer in different areas and applications. As time went on and more and more people learned computer skills, they tried to consult other people’s documents in different ways.
For example, if your files and folders are not secure, anyone can connect to your computer and access the files. This is the most common and perhaps the simplest type of cybercrime. But as technology evolved, more and more types of cybercrime emerged. There are many technologies, but some of them deserve to be mentioned are the implementation of a packet sniffer or simply the injection of a Trojan into the network. To your knowledge, all data such as your files and folders, or even critical data that we do not want to share with others, for example your credit card data can be hacked. For this reason, PC Security is no longer just a major concern for most small businesses or consumer computing, but individual users are also informed and take all necessary steps to prevent a hacker or hacker stealing sensitive information from his computer. Instead of discussing how to fall for each other’s system, discuss how to stop or try to stop such hacking.
First, make sure you do not store any sensitive information stored in your computer. If you need to keep a hard copy, you can certainly keep it in a pen drive, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. Once you have stored it on removable media, the only responsibility on your side is to store the media in a safe and secure place that does not always apply to a computer in an open network. For less important or less critical data, it is always best to keep a backup copy. All operating systems give the possibility to make a backup.
Keep a good antivirus with a good firewall that will protect unwanted traffic. All operating systems such as UNIX, Linux, and MAC OS X, including our favorite Windows XP SP2, have a default firewall that filters network traffic quite well. Keeping a good antivirus or anti-malware / adware program will protect your computer against Trojans who might claim something and eventually take control of your computer and therefore your data.
